Little Righteous One
Little Righteous One
When I was living in the monastry I didn't have a clue
Because I was given things to do
My food was provided
And the daily schedule had already been decided
Long before I arrived
First thing every morning
I received my alarm calling
And all day long a bell tolling
Was telling me what to do and when
And I thought you were the one
Yes I did
You're not the one, no?
Oh well that just goes to show
How wrong I can be
Like young tigers in the jungle
And still learning how to read the game
You know I would gladly help you out right now
But you must admit it's been a long, long time
Since we last saw each other
And remember then you were still a child
And if all the stories I've heard are true
Your adolescence has been wild
And I thought you were the one
Yes I did
You're not the one, no?
Oh well that just goes to show
How wrong I can be
When I called you up to come out and play
And you said you couldn't make it this time
You said you had other things on,
Your boyfriend had just gone,
And so you had to stay at home
And look after your child
When I said that's OK I don't mind I can play alone
You know I didn't really mean that
But my words had flown
And what you said this time
Is the same as what you said last time
That's why I'm trying to fly
Without your invisible mime
And I thought you were the one
Yes I did
You're not the one, no?
Oh well that just goes to show
How wrong I can be
Now I'm living in a house on the farm
I'm paying bills and I'm paying rent
I cut the grass, prune the trees,
Sweep the paths, go to bed
And get up when I want
Endless choices and daily decisions
Now all mine to make
Some could be called good
Some could be called bad
Successes or mistakes
Oh and I know I made some promises
But I really can't remember exactly what they were
It's like I was waking up from a long deep sleep
And my mind was in a blur
Still I try to honour them in their essence
Just as best as I could
And taking all things into consideration
You have to say it's turned out good
And I thought you were the one
Yes I did
You're not the one, no?
Oh well that just goes to show
How wrong I can be
Ride on, ride on
You little righteous one
